F$ck Optimizing

When is the optimal time of the day to work out? What is the perfect nutrition that will release my untapped potential? When should I time my social media posts for maximum views? When should I send my email out to ensure the best response rate? These are all questions that I have asked myself way too many times.

I am not an Olympic athlete. I am not a professional athlete. I like to tinker, and I love to learn. I like to try new things and see if I can make things easier. But sometimes I will get in my own way because I won’t start until I have it all figured out. What does this lead to? A whole bunch of nothing getting done.

I found that if I try and make the perfect post, I won’t post anything(so if you see some errors on this post…give a guy a break!).

When is the best time for me to work out?
Anytime. Anytime is better than nothing. Getting the workout completed is the important part. I can let go of trying to get the perfect timing. Instead, I can get some reps in and make some sweat.

The timing is being over-emphasized.

I have learned it is the action that starts the fire.

LEAP!

It is the doing that gives returns on efforts.

What is the perfect time to call people?
Perhaps I should make a list of all the people I need to call. Organize them by name and profession. Then do research on their companies. Wait. I just need to think of who the most important people I need to contact today are, and then here is a great idea… call them.

What is the perfect method and time to send emails for business development?
I am rewarded time and time again for sending the emails.

I see too much emphasis lately on optimizing, perfecting, the top 3 ways for this, and the top 10 things for that… so much advice, and we are running a red line of information overload.

We need to get back to the basics. We need to not be so hard on ourselves. Go for it. Do your best. Stop beating yourself up and become your own cheerleader.

Don’t worry about the perfect workout; start by getting a good workout in first, and then after a while, you can start to tinker with it. Don’t worry about the perfect nutrition; just do what you know works for you to get started, then add on. If you look at everything you need to do, you may never start.

Better to do it and get feedback and results. With the results, we can then refine and move forward.  Don’t need to take it so personally.
